ALP commander among 9 killed; militants blow up shrine

KABUL -- A commander of Afghan Local Police (ALP) with his two guards, two civilians and four insurgents were killed in different provinces of Afghanistan, while militants blew up a shrine in Logar province, Pajhwok Afghan News reported.

At least two civilians and as many insurgents were killed in two separate incidents of violence in the Shah Wali Kot district of Kandahar province, September 18, officials told Pajhwok Afghan News.

The civilians were killed when their vehicle hit a land mine in the Andarano area while two militants were eliminated in a clash with security forces in the Syasang area of the district, officials said.

The Taliban assault in the centre of Shah Joy district, Zabul province, September 18 left an ALP commander and two of his bodyguards killed, Pajhwok Afghan News reported, quoting Deputy Police Chief Ghulam Jilani Farahi.

Separately, two militants were killed during a clash with security forces in the Katili Manda area between the provincial capital of Qalat and Seori district, Farahi added.

Meanwhile, Taliban militants reportedly blew up a shrine in the Baraki Barak district of Logar province late September 17, Muhammad Rahim Amin, the district's administrative chief, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
