ISLAMABAD -- Pakistan November 8 handed over Afghan refugee Sharbat Gula to Afghan officials at the Torkham border crossing, Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty (RFE/RL) reported. Pakistani authorities deported her four children earlier.
Gula gained fame by appearing on the cover of National Geographic magazine in 1985.
Police recently arrested her in Peshawar for using phony documents to live in Pakistan with her children.
Afghan President Ashraf Ghani has already set aside a house in Kabul for the Gula family, according to RFE/RL.
