Staff Report

KABUL -- An "Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant" (ISIL) shadow governor and three other ISIL members were captured during recent raids in Nangarhar and Jawzjan provinces, while the wife of an ISIL commander surrendered to police, Afghan media reported.

National Directorate of Security (NDS) operatives recently detained three ISIL militants in Nangarhar Province, the NDS said in an August 16 statement, according to the Afghanistan Times. The ISIL members had orders to carry out terrorism in Achin District, the NDS added.

Security forces August 16 in Jawzjan Province captured that province's shadow ISIL governor, provincial governor's spokesman Mohammad Reza Ghafoori said, according to TOLO News.

Troops arrested him in a mosque, where he was recruiting more followers, Ghafoori said.

On the same day in Jawzjan Province, the wife of an ISIL commander turned herself in to police, accusing her husband of pressuring her to carry out a suicide bombing, Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty (RFE/RL) reported.

According to the woman, her husband switched to ISIL from the Taliban, provincial police chief Rahmatullah Turkistani said, according to RFE/RL.
