Staff Report

KABUL -- Afghanistan, Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey recently agreed to establish a Lapis-Lazuli Route, a world transit and trade corridor that goes through these countries, the Afghan Foreign Ministry said in a statement November 17, TOLO News reported.

Officials from the five countries November 16 in Baku finalised a draft agreement to be signed by top officials in the near future, the ministry said.

The planned route will be the shortest one between Afghanistan and the Mediterranean and Black seas, the ministry said, adding that it will significantly cut shipping costs and times for Afghanistan and other countries.
