New Zealand trains 330 Afghan cadets

KABUL -- New Zealand is training about 330 Afghan army cadets, including women, at the Afghan National Army Officer Academy (ANAOA) in Kabul, Pajhwok Afghan News reported November 23.

The cadets taking the year-long course include 30 women, the New Zealand Defence Force announced.

Meanwhile, the Afghan government is considering placing 10 women on the Afghan Ulema Council to help address problems faced by women, Khaama Press reported November 23.

All government leaders should come forward to support the elimination of violence against women, Women's Affairs Minister Dilbar Nazari said during a recent Kabul ceremony to the coming International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women (November 25).

Women's current situation in Afghanistan is not acceptable, President Ashraf Ghani and government CEO Abdullah Abdullah agreed.
