BATI KOT, Afghanistan -- Militants late Monday (December 26) set fire to a telecom tower in Bati Kot District, Nangarhar Province, provincial governor spokesman Ataullah Khogyani confirmed, TOLO News reported.
No casualties were reported and no group has claimed responsibility.
Hundreds of towers nationwide are endangered by the efforts of the Taliban and other militant groups to extort money from private telecom firms, the Afghanistan Telecommunications Regulatory Authority warned earlier this year.
