JALALABAD, Afghanistan -- Afghan forces have broken a 40-day-long Taliban siege of Do Aab District, Nuristan Province, local officials said Wednesday (January 4), according to Pajhwok Afghan News.
Troops led by provincial police chief Gen. Ikramuddin Sarea smashed the siege after launching a clearance operation two days ago, Nuristan Governor Hafiz Abdul Qayum said.
The road to Do Aab has been re-opened, said Sohbatullah, a local resident. "A truck of food, ghee and other edibles arrived in the district this morning."
