Afghan forces capture Taliban base, kill 27 militants

KABUL -- Afghan security forces killed at least 27 militants in fighting in Nangarhar and Nimroz provinces, officials said.

The dead militants included 25 Taliban and two Haqqani Network (HN) commanders, according to officials.

HN commanders Omran Khan and Shaheen were killed during a military operation in Lalpur District, Nangarhar Province, the Ministry of Interior (MoI) said Sunday (January 8), according to the Afghanistan Times.

Separately, troops in Nimroz Province killed 19 Taliban while evicting the Taliban from the Razavi and Kandahariha areas, Nimroz Governor Muhammad Sami told Pajhwok Afghan News Sunday (January 8).

One Afghan soldier was killed in the Nimroz fighting, provincial deputy police chief Col. Muhammad Saleh Massoud said.

Security forces in Baghlan Province killed six insurgents, officials said Monday (January 9), according to Pajhwok Afghan News.
