Afghanistan's first-ever female governor wins peace award

KABUL -- Afghan High Peace Council (HPC) deputy chairwoman Habiba Sarabi received a reward from the United Nations Development Programme on Sunday (February 12) in Thailand, TOLO News reported.

Sarabi was nominated for the N-Peace Network's N-PEACE award under the Untold Story Category for her work to bring peace to Afghanistan. She also ensured attention towards gender equality and women's empowerment, the N-PEACE network said.

Sarabi served as Afghanistan's first-ever female governor from 2005 to 2013. She led Bamiyan Province.
