Iran recruits Afghan children for Syria war: Human Rights Watch

Salaam Times

NEW YORK -- Iran is recruiting Afghan children as young as 14 for its war in Syria, Human Rights Watch (HRW) said in a statement Sunday (October 1). The children are either immigrants or refugees to Iran.

By looking at photos of Iranian gravestones, HRW identified eight Afghan children apparently killed in combat in Syria. Iranian media reported on six more Afghan child soldiers killed in Syria.

Iran has been recruiting Afghans living in Iran to join the Fatemiyoun division, an all-Afghan unit that fights on behalf of the Syrian government.
