KABUL -- The Afghanistan Independent Human Rights Commission (AIHRC) says recent Taliban attacks in Farah, Ghazni and Paktia provinces are war crimes, TOLO News reported Wednesday (October 18).

Scores of civilians and security personnel have been killed or wounded in the attacks.

In one of those incidents, a co-ordinated attack on Paktia's provincial police headquarters Tuesday (October 17), at least 20 civilians and 21 security personnel were killed. The Taliban claimed responsibility.

"This is a criminal act, a clear violation of human rights and it can be exemplified as war crimes," said Mohammad Musa Mahmoodi, executive director of the AIHRC.

Mahmoodi urged the Taliban to respect the lives of civilians.
