LAGHMAN -- Afghan police officers killed a Taliban leader in Laghman Province whom the Afghan government had long pursued, Khaama Press reported Tuesday (December 19).

The Taliban leader identified as Farhad, also known as Badar, was killed in combat between police forces and militants Monday (December 18) in Mehtarlam, Laghman Province, the provincial government media office said in a statement.

Farhad was involved in assassinations, roadside bombings and other terrorist acts, the statement said.

Earlier this month, a premature explosion at the residence of a local Taliban leader in Laghman Province killed Abdul Samad, the Taliban's shadow district chief. Taliban militants inside the house were making improvised explosive devices.
