KABUL -- Several Afghan and US troops were killed and wounded in a combat operation in eastern Afghanistan, the NATO-led Resolute Support Mission said in a statement Monday (April 30).
A US soldier was killed and another wounded, the statement said.
Several Afghan security personnel were also killed or wounded, according to the statement.
The statement did not specify the location of the clash.
"My thoughts and those of US Forces Afghanistan are with the families and friends of our fallen and wounded service members," said Gen. John Nicholson, commander of Resolute Support.
"Their valiancy in battle, and that of the brave Afghan partners they fought alongside, will endure in our hearts and history," he said.
