Afghan forces kill at least 11 Taliban militants in Helmand

KABUL -- Afghan forces killed at least 11 Taliban militants and wounded three others in Helmand Province, the Interior Ministry said in a statement Wednesday (December 26).

Afghan police conducted a clearance operation on the Wazir Manda highway, killing at least three Taliban militants, said the statement.

"Four Taliban hideouts destroyed and several villages cleared of armed Taliban presence," the statement noted.

Separately, the Afghan air force targeted Taliban hideouts in Lawur Khil village, Kajaki District, and Qala-e-Gaz village, Nahr-e-Saraj District, killing at least eight Taliban fighters, including two of the group's local commanders, said the same statement.

The strike destroyed weapons and vehicles belonging to the militants.

Officials did not provide details on the timing of the operations.
