Joint operation kills 57 Taliban militants, key leaders in Faryab

MAZAR-E-SHARIF -- Afghan and coalition forces in Faryab Province killed at least 57 Taliban militants, including four key leaders, the 209th Shaheen Corps of the Afghan National Army said in a statement Wednesday (January 23).

The operations, which had air support from NATO's Resolute Support Mission, occurred Wednesday in different parts of Qaisar District, said the statement.

Gandum Ali, the Taliban's financial manager for five northern provinces, and the shadow Taliban judge and deputy shadow governor for Qaisar District were among those killed, it said.

The Taliban did not immediately comment.
