KABUL -- Protesters in Moqor District, Ghazni Province, reopened the Kabul-Kandahar highway after a number of the district tribal elders met with Afghan National Security Adviser Hamdullah Mohib in Kabul Saturday (February 23), according to a statement from the National Security Council.
The protesters had been demonstrating for a week, demanding that their district be promoted to a province after the Independent Directorate of Local Governance (IDLG) earlier this month confirmed plans to create new provinces, according to the statement.
Mohib thanked the elders for ending the protest, assuring them that a commission would assess the protesters' demands.
