Taliban Red Unit commander among 4 militants killed in Helmand

HELMAND -- The National Directorate of Security (NDS) Tuesday (May 7) said in a statement that its special forces raided the compound of a commander of the Taliban's elite Red Unit in Helmand Province, killing four militants.

The operation took place in Marjah District, said the statement, without specifying when it happened.

The Taliban commander, identified as Ataullah, was among those killed, according to the statement.

Troops confiscated six weapons, two hand grenades, a radio communication set, three vehicles and some written propaganda, it added.

The Taliban did not immediately comment.
