2 premature bomb blasts kill Taliban commander, explosives specialist

KABUL -- Premature bomb explosions killed a Taliban commander and a member of the group known to be an explosives specialist in two separate incidents in Baghlan and Logar provinces, the Interior Ministry said Wednesday (May 15).

The Taliban commander, identified as Abu Bakar, was killed when he attempted to plant a roadside bomb in Khalzai village, Dand-e-Shahabuddin District, Baghlan Province, the ministry said in a statement, without reporting when it took place.

Another premature explosion Tuesday (May 14) killed a Taliban bomb-maker who was trying to transfer a roadside bomb in Khwaja Angor village, Kharwar District, Logar Province, the ministry said in a separate statement.

The Taliban had no immediate comment.
