KABUL -- Afghan special forces rescued 59 captives from a Taliban prison in Faryab Province, the Defence Ministry said in a statement Thursday (June 6).
Afghan forces conducted the operation Wednesday (June 5) night in the Shaakh area of Qaisar District, said the statement.
Those rescued included 31 Afghan soldiers, 2 commando officers, 14 police officers, 4 civilians and 8 foreigners.
Troops arrested 20 Taliban militants and 4 members of "Islamic State of Iraq and Syria" (ISIS) whom the Taliban were holding, the statement added.
At least three Taliban fighters were killed and eight others wounded, officials said.
The Taliban did not immediately comment.
