MAZAR-E-SHARIF -- Afghan special forces, backed by air support from NATO's Resolute Support Mission, killed at least 26 Taliban insurgents in an ongoing operation in Faryab Province, the 209th Shaheen Corps of the Afghan National Army said in a statement Wednesday (June 19).
Afghan forces launched the operation Tuesday (June 18) night in Ghormach District, said the statement.
At least 16 Taliban local commanders were among those killed, it added.
The Taliban did not immediately comment.
