KABUL -- Taliban militants set a girls' school on fire in Kabul Province, the Interior Ministry said Tuesday (August 20).

The incident took place early Tuesday at the Boyazar girls' high school in Nasiri village, Shakardara District, Kabul Province, TOLOnews reported, citing Nasrat Rahimi, spokesperson for the Interior Ministry.

"The Taliban create violence, kill scholars, engineers, doctors, local elders, tribal elders and close doors for education and set them on fire," Rahimi said in a Facebook post Tuesday.

The Taliban denied responsibility in a statement.
