Join peace process or face continued battlefield losses, Mohib tells Taliban

Salaam Times

NEW YORK -- Afghan National Security Adviser Hamdullah Mohib called on the Taliban to join the peace process or face a continued fight with Afghan forces.

"To the Taliban and their foreign sponsors, hear this now, a message from the Afghan people: join us in peace, or we will continue to fight," Mohib said at the 74th session of the General Assembly of the United Nations (UN) on Monday (September 30), according to the Afghan mission to the UN.

"As my colleague, Ambassador Adela Raz, said last week here at the United Nations. 'This is a fight we can win,'" he said.

The ANDSF [Afghan National Defence and Security Forces] has proven itself as a solidified and professional institution able to protect our democratic process, and the international community has taken a firm stand in solidarity with the Afghan people and government," Mohib added.
