ISIL frees 5 hostages in Nangarhar

Staff Report

NANGARHAR -- The "Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant" (ISIL) released five civilian hostages in Nangarhar Province, governor's spokesman Ataullah Khogyani told Pajhwok Afghan News Sunday (January 29).

The five were among dozens of civilians whom ISIL kidnapped a few months ago in Pacheragam District, Khogyani said, adding that the government made no deal to free the hostages.

More than 40 civilians are still in ISIL's hands, said Izzatullah, a Pacheragam tribal elder.
