7 Afghan militants, soldier killed

KABUL -- At least seven militants and an Afghan National Army (ANA) soldier were killed in recent nationwide violence.

Three militants, including a Taliban-designated judge, recently were killed by bombs in two districts in Helmand Province, security officials said July 5, according to Khaama Press. The Taliban judge was killed in Asmar District by a bomb. Two militants in Gereshk District were killed by their own bomb when it exploded prematurely.

Five insurgents, including a Taliban commander, were killed in Gilan District, Ghazni Province, in fighting with Afghan Local Police (ALP) July 5, Pajhwok Afghan News reported, quoting provincial Police Chief Brig. Gen. Aminullah Amarkhil.

One soldier died and six others were hospitalised after a rogue ANA soldier allegedly poisoned colleagues who were having iftari, the fast-breaking evening meal during Ramadan, in Ghormach District, Faryab Province, ANA spokesman Brig. Gen. Sakhi Dad Kaptan told Pajhwok Afghan News July 5. The suspect escaped, he said.
