Afghan forces kill 25 militants in Kandahar, clear Kot District

Staff Report

KANDAHAR -- Afghan troops recently killed at least 25 militants in Kandahar Province, while Nangarhar Governor Salim Khan Kunduzi said forces had cleared many parts of Kot District of militants.

A recent operation by troops in Khakrez District killed 12 terrorists, including three Taliban commanders, Kandahar provincial government spokesman Samim Khpalwak told Pajhwok Afghan News July 6.

Kunduzi visited a number of outposts after offering Eid ul Fitr prayers in Kot District, Nangarhar Province.

An on-going operation in Kot District has reduced activity by the "Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant" (ISIL) there, he said July 6, according to Pajhwok Afghan News. Many areas of KOT are free of ISIL now, he said.

"We are going to the heart of [ISIL]," he said. "Our troops are advancing on areas where ISIL has established its bases."
