Afghan forces kill dozens of ISIL members in Nangarhar

KABUL -- Afghan troops recently killed dozens of members of the "Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant" (ISIL) and captured a Taliban deputy district chief in Nangarhar Province, while a roadside bomb in Faryab Province killed two civilians.

Troops recently killed at least 17 members of ISIL in Achin District, Nangarhar Province, the provincial governor's office said in a statement July 22, according to Pajhwok Afghan News.

The troops destroyed ISIL's communication system in the area during the operations, the statement said.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) reported the deaths of 48 ISIL militants in recent operations, Khaama Press reported July 21. The 48 dead might include the 17 reported by Pajhwok Afghan News.

Meanwhile, troops recently detained Rahmatullah, the Taliban-designated deputy chief of Bati Kot District, Nangarhar Province, Nangarhar governor's spokesman Ataullah Khogyani told Pajhwok Afghan News July 21. The location of his capture was not reported.

A roadside bomb July 22 in Almar District, Faryab Province, killed at least two civilians, TOLO News reported, quoting Gen. Ghulam Farooq, commander of civilian anti-Taliban forces in Faryab.
