Taliban suffer heavy casualties in Baghlan, Takhar

KABUL -- Dozens of Taliban militants were killed in clashes with security forces in Baghlan and Takhar provinces, while fighting with the Taliban continues in Nad-e-Ali District, Helmand Province, and Kunduz city, TOLO News reported.

Troops conducting an overnight raid in Pul-i-Khumri, Baghlan Province, August 21, killed at least 15 Taliban, provincial Governor Abdul Satar Barez said, according to TOLO News.

Meanwhile, troops are continuing to clear militants out of Nad-e-Ali District, TOLO News reported August 22.

The Taliban suffered heavy casualties in Khwaja Ghar District, Takhar Province, governor's spokesman Sonatullah Timor said, according to an August 22 TOLO News report. Fighting in the district began early August 22.

The exact number of Taliban casualties in that fighting was not known, Takhar Governor Yasen Zia said, adding that authorities spotted six dead Taliban. Four troops were killed, Zia added.
