100 Afghan militants, 19 security personnel killed

KABUL -- At least 100 militants and 19 security personnel were killed in recent fighting across Afghanistan.

Troops killed 97 militants in a 24-hour span, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) said August 31, according to the Afghanistan Times.

Twelve soldiers were killed.

Troops in Helmand Province recently killed at least 12 Taliban, provincial police chief Brig. Gen. Aqa Noor Kentoz told Pajhwok Afghan News August 31. Those 12 might have been part of the 97 dead militants reported by the MoD.

In more fighting in Bala Balok District, Farah Province, at least three militants and three soldiers were killed, Brig. Gen. Mir Asadullah Kohistani said August 31, according to Pajhwok Afghan News.

In other fighting in two Uruzgan Province districts, the Taliban killed four police officers, provincial police chief Abdul Qavi Omari said August 31, according to Pajhwok Afghan News.
