Afghan violence kills 86 militants, 7 soldiers, 3 civilians

KABUL -- At least 86 Taliban militants and seven Afghan soldiers were killed in multiple provinces in a 24-hour span, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) said in a September 21 statement, according to the Afghanistan Times.

Meanwhile, a September 21 roadside bombing in Merzaki District, Paktika Province, killed three civilians, Merzaki police chief Ibrahim Mangal told Pajhwok Afghan News.

Authorities fearing security problems recently shut down 40 schools and seminaries in Ghazni Province, provincial Education Director Muhammad Abid Abid confirmed in an interview with Pajhwok Afghan News September 21.

The province has 600 schools, according to Pajhwok Afghan News.
