KABUL -- Afghan troops killed at least 29 insurgents and freed 101 hostages in recent fighting nationwide, media reported.
Troops killed more than 20 militants in a 24-hour span in Dasht-i-Archi District, Kunduz Province, provincial police chief Muhammad Qasim Jangalbagh said September 26, according to Pajhwok Afghan News.
Three troops were killed in the fighting, he added.
Troops killed nine Taliban in Barmal District, Paktika Province, September 24, the Ministry of Interior (MoI) said, according to the Afghanistan Times. The Afghan National Border Police recently defused 19 roadside bombs in Spin Boldak District, Kandahar Province, the MoI added.
Meanwhile, Afghan special forces September 25 freed at least 101 hostages held in various Taliban jails in Helmand Province, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) said September 26, according to the Afghanistan Times.
