Afghan forces kill 100 Taliban

KUNDUZ -- At least 100 militants and three civilians were killed in three days of fighting in Kunduz Province, while troops evicted "Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant" (ISIL) militants from seven Nangarhar Province villages, officials said.

Heavy fighting took place on the Kabul-Kunduz highway and in various areas of Kunduz city October 6, TOLO News reported.

Troops carrying out air and ground offensives killed at least 100 Taliban in Kunduz Province in the past three days, the provincial governor's office said.

About 20 troops were killed or wounded in the Kunduz fighting and three civilians killed, the governor's office added.

Meanwhile, security forces recently drove ISIL militants out of seven villages in Achin District, Nangarhar Province, the 201st Silab Corps said in an October 6 statement, Pajhwok Afghan News reported.

Many ISIL members were killed or wounded, the statement added.
