Taliban pushed back from Ghormach

Staff Report

KABUL -- Security forces pushed out militants from Ghormach District of Faryab province October 20, officials said, according to Khaama Press.

The security offensives were led by Afghan First Vice President General Abdul Rashid Dostum, taking control of the district administrative compound, the district police commandment and the market of Ghormach from the Taliban, a spokesman for the Ghormach security commandment, Muhammad Karim Yoresh, said.

The operation was also supported by the Afghan Air Force (AAF), he added.

Meanwhile, Afghan President Ashraf Ghani ordered the security forces to stop hitting positions, centres and bases of Hezb-e-Islami Afghanistan (HI) party as he issued a nine-article decree on implementation of a peace agreement, Pajhwok Afghan News reported October 21.

The security forces were directed to consult HI about their bases in order to effectively enforce the ceasefire and avoid any untoward incident, according to presidential decree.

The Afghan security forces will fully support the HI fighters if they come under attack from armed opponents during their reintegration process, the decree said.

The Afghanistan security forces' leadership is directed to fully co-ordinate with foreign forces in implementation of the peace agreement's content, the decree added.

Ghani and HI leader Gulbuddin Hekmatyar signed a historic peace deal last month.
