Afghanistan reports 3.5 million drug addicts

KABUL -- Afghanistan has 3.5 million drug addicts, the country's Ministry of Counter Narcotics reported Tuesday (December 6), as the Counter Narcotics Police (CNP) seized 61 tonnes of hashish during an operation in Kabul Province last Saturday (December 3), media reported.

The addicts include more than 1 million youths, Counter Narcotics Minister Salamat Azimi said, according to TOLO News.

The CNP's giant drug haul consisted of six caches in Khak-e-Jabbar District, Deputy Counter Narcotics Minister Baz Muhammad Ahmadi said, Afghanistan Times reported December 6.

The CNP made 284 arrests in the past month and a half, Ahmadi added.
