Stolen police weapons in Balkh feared in hands of militants

Staff Report

MAZAR-I-SHARIF -- Balkh provincial police arrested one of their own and a financial official in connection with a theft of weapons from a police arsenal in the province, TOLO News reported Monday (February 27).

About 50 weapons were taken, provincial police spokesman Sher Jan Durrani said.

An inventory of the weapons cache is taken every year as a matter of procedure, said Durrani.

A number of Balkh provincial council members said they are concerned that the missing weapons may have ended up in the hands of militant groups.
