Kapisa residents build 100km road at own expense

Staff Report

MAHMOOD RAQI, Afghanistan -- Residents of Kapisa Province built a 100km-long road at their own expense, Alasai District chief Ghulam Naqashband Sapai told Pajhwok Afghan News Sunday (March 12).

Before the district residents built the road, they relied on horses and camels, local resident Malak Shagha said. Locals participated in the road construction, said Sapai. Each household involved contributed 2,000 AFN ($30) to the project.

The participants built an unpaved ring road linking the Jafarkhel, Sultankhel and Ockrachi areas to the district bazaar, he said.
