51 militants killed in Nangarhar, Helmand

KABUL -- At least 51 militants and nine security personnel were killed in recent fighting in Nangarhar and Helmand provinces, media reported.

Air and ground operations in three districts of Nangarhar Province killed 11 Taliban members and nine "Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant" (ISIL) members, the provincial government press office said in a statement, Khaama Press reported Sunday (March 12).

Nine troops were killed in the fighting.

Troops in Helmand Province killed 31 Taliban, the Helmand provincial government press office said in a statement Sunday, according to Radio Free Afghanistan.

Meanwhile, security forces rescued at least 32 police officers from a Taliban jail in Nad-e-Ali District, Helmand Province, Afghan National Army spokesman Gen. Mohammad Rasool Zazai said, according to a Monday (March 13) Khaama Press report.
