Taliban control 11 seminaries in Badakhshan, officials say

KABUL -- Taliban militants are operating 11 seminaries in Badakhshan Province, according to provincial officials, TOLO News reported Wednesday (March 22).

The hijacked seminaries are producing hundreds of youths instilled with militant ideology, said provincial Hajj and Religious Affairs Director Abdul Wali Arshad.

The province has 400 seminaries, he said.

Meanwhile, the Taliban reportedly captured Sangin District, Helmand Province, media reported Thursday (March 23).

Troops were forced to retreat from Sangin, confirmed an Afghan National Army source, according to Khaama Press.
