DARZAB -- The "Islamic State of Iraq and Syria" (ISIS) has destroyed more than a dozen schools in Darzab District, Jawzjan Province, in the past 10 days, Voice of America (VOA) reported Monday (July 3), quoting Abul Rahman Mahmoodi, acting governor of Jawzjan.
All the affected schools were closed for the summer.
Among those schools was a girls' high school, which ISIS "burned down entirely", Mahmoodi said, adding that the militants "plundered other schools in the area".
ISIS warned girls in the area not to attend school, a local resident who requested anonymity for safety reasons told VOA.
