KABUL -- Afghan forces rescued 70 soldiers in Uruzgan Province whom the Taliban had besieged for 10 months, Pajhwok Afghan News reported Thursday (July 13), quoting the Afghan National Army (ANA).
The rescue operation killed more than 60 Taliban militants, according to the ANA.
Meanwhile, 22 militants and a police officer were killed in fighting in Shah Joy District, Zabul Province, as troops cleared 17 villages of insurgents, Pajhwok Afghan News also reported Thursday.
The combat in Shah Joy District ended Wednesday (July 12) and was part of Operation Khalid, according to the Zabul government.
