Afghan forces clear Kot, Dara-e-Sof districts of militants

JALALABAD -- Afghan security forces have cleared Kot District, Nangarhar Province, of "Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant" (ISIL) militants and are working on Achin and Haska Mina districts, TOLO News reported.

A recent offensive in Kot killed at least 122 ISIL members, Ghulaam Hazrat, leader of a commando unit, said July 26.

Troops captured ISIL compounds containing training centres and a court, TOLO News reported.

Troops destroyed a number of ISIL centres in those operations, provincial governor's spokesman Ataullah Khogyani said, adding that most of the slain militants were foreigners.

Security forces have cleared militants from most parts of Dara-e-Sof District, Samangan Province, the Ministry of Interior (MoI) said July 26, according to Khaama Press.

In addition, 260 Taliban members in Samangan Province recently surrendered after 11 days of pounding by troops, the MoI said.
