Authorities to investigate reports of death benefits paid to Taliban families

Staff Report

KUNDUZ -- The Ministry of Interior (MoI) is investigating reports that the Kunduz provincial government paid death benefits to families of dead Taliban, TOLO News reported Monday (April 10).

About 50 to 60 such families received benefits, provincial Governor Asadullah Amarkhil confirmed Monday.

He paid them when they asked because the country has the "generosity" to do so, he said.

The MoI will pursue those who embezzled money, according to MoI spokesman Najib Danish.

TOLO News quoted a mother of a fallen Afghan National Army soldier who said that her son died months ago but that she had received no support from the government.
