BADAKHSHAN -- Local officials in Badakhshan province say they are ready to clear Yamgan and Warduj districts of Taliban militants if they receive orders from the central government, TOLOnews reported Friday (October 13).

"I can assure you that the people will get rid of the [insecurity] if we are allowed to launch the military operations," said Assadullah Gaard, the police chief of Warduj district.

A number of popular uprising forces also said they were ready to fight the militants and join the military operation.

"We have fought against the Taliban [in Badakhshan] for the past five years. We are now ready to defend the country and support the Afghan security forces in the province," said Mohammad Majid, a commander of popular uprising forces in Baharak district.
