Afghans foil Supreme Court attack, kill 50 militants in Nangarhar

KABUL -- Afghan troops recently foiled a terrorist plot to attack the country's Supreme Court and killed at least 50 militants in Nangarhar Province, media reported.

Security forces killed an armed woman trying to attack the country's top court, an official said, according to Khaama Press. They shot and killed her before she could enter the compound, an official said.

Troops killed at least 50 insurgents, including 35 "Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant" (ISIL) and 15 Taliban members, in a July 20 operation in Achin District, Nangarhar Province, provincial governor's spokesman Ataullah Khogyani said July 21, Khaama Press reported.

Defence Minister and Gen. Abdullah Habibi recently visited Nangarhar Province for discussions with civilian and security officials about launching a major anti-ISIL operation there, the provincial government said in a July 21 statement.

President Ashraf Ghani, during his most recent trip to Nangarhar, ordered troops to eradicate ISIL in Nangarhar, Kunar and Nuristan provinces, according to Khaama Press.
